Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball upset by Claflin

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Coming off a 23-day break, the Lincoln women's basketball team couldn't find any rhythm offensively or defensively, and was upset by Claflin Monday, 71-60, in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association action.

The loss snaps a five-game winning streak, and Lincoln falls to 9-4 overall, 2-1 in the CIAA. The Lions return to action 5 p.m. Wednesday at Saint Augustine's.

Lincoln, the CIAA's highest-scoring team, was held to less than 70 points for just the second time this season. It was the third-lowest scoring output of the year. The Lions finished with just six points in the first quarter, their lowest-scoring quarter of the season.

Despite the slow start, Lincoln used a 13-3 run at the beginning of the second quarter to cut its deficit to three. The spurt was capped by a corner three-pointer by fifth-year senior Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin). However, the momentum was stymied by a technical foul.

Claflin seized control with a 13-0 run that spanned the second and third quarter to open up a double-digit lead that the Panthers wouldn't relinquish.

Junior Kania Pollock (Queens, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) came off the bench to lead the team with 15 points, while senior Shantel Cheeks (Washington D.C./Rock Creek Christian Academy (Harcum College)) and Brown added 13 points each. Fifth-year senior Joy Morton (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds.
