Defense battles in loss to LHU

COATESVILLE, PA - The Lincoln University football team opened the 2021 season with a 20-0 loss to Lock Haven University Saturday in non-conference action at Red Raider Stadium.

The score wasn't indicative of the Lions' defense performance throughout the game. Lincoln surrendered just 215 yards defensively. Through three quarters, Lincoln allowed just four plays over 10 yards. LHU added three additional plays of at least 10 yards in the fourth quarter.

Junior defensive back Eric Best (Burlington, N.J. /Burlington) (Burlington, N.J./Burlington/LA Pierce CC) finished with a team-high eight tackles, while sophomore linebacker Derrick McCoy (Bridgeton, N.J. /Bridgeton) (Bridgeton, N.J./Bridgeton) added five tackles with a sack, forced fumble, and quarterback hurry. Junior defensive back Roosevelt Jordan (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) hauled in an interception for the Lions.

Lock Haven took the lead with a brief five-yard drive that came on the heels of a drop punt snap. The Bald Eagles seized momentum heading into halftime with a 40-yard touchdown strike with seven seconds remaining.

Lincoln looked to get back in the game with an eight-minute drive to start the third quarter. The Lions drove to the Lock Haven seven, put a pair of loss-yard carries and a bad field goal snap kept LU scoreless. On its next possession, Lincoln had its drive come to an end with a pick near the end zone. The turnover was returned 77 yards and set up Lock Haven's final score.

Redshirt sophomore Isaiah Wilson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) IV (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna/Norfolk State) finished 8-of-21 for 116 yards and an interception. He was sacked three times.

Junior Michael Credle (Bear, Del./Glasgow/Wesley College) hauled in three receptions for 30 yards, while freshman Charlie Burnett (Gettysburg, Pa. /Gettysburg) (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) had a 50-yard reception.

Freshman Zaheer Seabrooks (Paterson, N.J. /Bethlehem Catholic) (Paterson, N.J./Bethlehem Catholic) had 20 yards on seven carries, while Ahman Foster-Powell (Henrico, Va./Highland Springs) (Henrico, Va./Highland Springs) added 17 yards on eight carries.

Lincoln (0-1) returns to action 1 p.m. Saturday, hosting Central State (0-1) in non-conference action in Coatesville.
