Johns wins 400, Carrington sets school record

New York, N.Y. – The Lincoln University track and field teams kicked off the 2021-22 indoor season at the TCNJ Indoor Opener at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory this past weekend.
 
Freshman Kamani Johns (Chester, Pa./Chester) started her career by winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.77, while freshman Nakacee McNab (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) placed third in 1:01.82. After placing fifth in qualifying with a time of 9.30 seconds, freshman Aisha Carrington (Baltimore, Md./Franklin) improved on her time and place by finishing fourth with a school-record time of 9.23 seconds.
 
Senior Lorielle Laforest (Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) brought home the only other top-five finish, placing fourth in the shot put with a career-best distance of 10.43 meters. It marked just the second time in her career that she went over 10 meters in the event. Freshman Aniyah Epps (Baltimore, Md./Western) added a top-10 finish in the 300-meter dash, finishing 10th with a time of 44.68 seconds, while sophomore Jermeria Pantoon-Whitehead (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) was ninth in the 600 (1:50.15).
 
On the men's side, junior Glenn Butler brought home a pair of top-five finishes. He was second in the long jump (7.35 meters) and fifth in the triple jump (11.85 meters). Transfers Dominic George (Wyncote, Pa./Cheltenham) and Nyle Buchanan (King George, Va./King George) finished sixth and ninth, respectively, in the 60-meter dash. George posted a time of 7.09 seconds, followed by Buchanan's 7.25 seconds.
 
Freshmen Jordan Hall (Randallstown, Md./Newtown) and Jeremy Gyan (Bear, Del./Newark Charter) both placed top 10 in the 60-meter hurdles with Hall finishing third (8.40 seconds) and Gyan ninth (9.43 seconds). Freshman Jameel Hoyes (Atlanta, Ga./Veterans) was seventh in the 300-meter dash (36.09 seconds).
 
Junior Christopher Brown (New Castle, Del./William Penn) was fifth in the shot put with a distance of 12.59 meters, and freshman Grant Fields (/) was ninth with a mark of 10.94 meters.
 
Lincoln returns to action Friday at the Bow Tie Invitational in Phoenixville, Pa.
