For a player that prides herself on defensive intensity, sophomore Maya Walker announced her offensive presence for the Lincoln University women's basketball team.
Walker came off the bench to reach career-highs with 11 points and eight rebounds as the Lions closed out a five-game homestand with the 87-54 victory over Washington Adventist in non-conference action at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
The sophomore forward added three steals, two blocks, and two assists in the victory.
While Walker was coming into her own in her 22 minutes on the court, senior
Joy Morton (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) shook off her early-season shooting woes to get the Lions rolling. She drilled three consecutive three-pointers to cap a 14-0 run and the rout was on.
Lincoln led by 10 at the end of the first quarter, and double its advantage with a 13-3 run at the start of the second quarter.
The Lions lead ballooned to as much as 39 points early in the fourth quarter. Washington Adventist pulled to within 29 before Lincoln tallied the final two buckets of the game.
Coming off a season-low 47 points with just seven assists, the Lincoln offense hummed with efficiency and selflessness. The Lions dished out a season-high 21 assists to score the season-best 87 points. Ten of the 12 players recorded as assist with junior
Jade Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends School) tying a season-high five dimes.
Junior
Kania Pollock (Queens, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) led a quartet of double-digit scorers with 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting off the bench. Morton added 14 points with six rebounds, two assists, and a steal, while junior JeanaWeatherspoon rounded out the quartet with 10 points and five rebounds.
Lincoln (3-2 overall) has its first road game of the season, traveling to the University of Charleston 2 p.m. Saturday.
