RICHMOND, Va. – The interception streak lives on.

For the ninth straight game, and all six games this season, the Lincoln Lions came up with an interception, but LU fell to Virginia Union Saturday, 32-0, at Hovey Field.

Freshman Rontay Dunbar (Brooklyn, N.Y. /Freedom) became the first defender with multiple picks on his second-quarter interception. Lincoln now has eight interceptions in the first six contests.

The Lincoln defense allowed one touchdown drive over 34 yards in the contest as a pair of special team miscues helped the Panthers take the early lead. A bad punt snap on the first drive led to a safety, and then a blocked punt set Virginia Union up on the six-yard line and four plays later, the deficit was 9-0.

A sack fumble led to a 3-play, 31-yard scoring drive as VUU took the 16-0 halftime lead. The Panthers kicked a field goal in the third quarter and scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Five different players finished the game with five tackles, including Dunbar – who added the aforementioned interception with three pass breakups. Senior Devon Cathcart (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) added 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack, while Kentrell Pierce (Calumet City, Ill./Harold Richards) added 1.5 tackles for loss and a pair of pass breakups. Freshman Kamar Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) and Derrick McCoy (Bridgeton, N.J. /Bridgeton) also had a tackle for loss.

Running back Elijah Snell (Brooklyn, N.Y./Erasmus Hall) led the way with 57 yards rushing on 12 attempts, while quarterback Andrew Banks (Atlanta, Ga. /Mays) had 10 carries for 56 yards. The quarterback tandem of Banks and junior Trae Greene (Willingboro, N.J. /Willingboro) combined to throw for 56 yards on 7-of-21 passing with one interception and was sacked nine times.

Lincoln returns home to play Elizabeth City State University for Homecoming 1 p.m. Saturday.
