Today's installment  spotlights athletes who wore the #40

1994 graduate and men’s basketball player Leon Howard donned the #40 jersey throughout his stellar four-year career at Lincoln.   Playing from 1990-94, Howard led the Lions to back-to-back ECAC South Division III Championships his junior and senior year.  “Rabbit” as he was nicknamed, led the Lions scoring 406 points his junior season and was the team’s leading scorer his senior year before a leg injury ended his season, just 66 points shy of joining Lincoln’s 1,000 point club. Howard scored 21 points in a game against Cheyney his junior year as the Lions earned their first win over the wolves in 21 seasons, 67-63.  He had a career high 29 points in January 1993 at Pitt-Johnstown. For his career, Howard made 79 three-point field goals while shooting 36.2% from beyond the arc (7th on LU’s all-time list).  He was also a stellar performer in track and field earning all-America status six times in the triple jump, including all four years competing at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and field championships.

Tahlar McIntosh was a four year player on the Lincoln women’s basketball team from 2009-2013, playing in 89 games over the course of her career. Stsarting 19 of 28 games her senior year, McIntosh reached double figures in scoring 17 times, including a career-high of 21 set against Fayetteville State and later Bowie State.  She recorded five double-doubles on the season one of which included a career-high 16 rebounds (against Concordia (NY).  McIntosh averaged 10.9 points per game her senior season and finished her career with 580 (one of just 27 players in the 50-year history of the program to record 500 or more career points – currently 23rd all-time).  McIntosh was a solid free throw shooter, converting 73.6% of her attempts (206-280) over her career which is the fourth best total in program history. In addition, McIntosh ranks among the Lions’ top-15 all time in seven statistical categories.

Joe Kenney was a triple threat football player who played four seasons from 1952-1955.  Kenney also played two years on the varsity basketball team and four years on the baseball team.  Kenney played in the offensive backfield and also served as their extra-point kicker and punter.  In 25 games, Kenney completed 48 passes for 638 yards while also rushing for 314.  In the three seasons in which stats were available. Kenney is one of six punters to kick for more than 3000 yards over their career and his 23 extra points ranks third on the Lions all-time list. He ranks among the Lions’ all-time top ten in 13 different statistical categories.

Mike Johnson is a linebacker who has been part of the Lincoln’s football team the past two seasons.   As a freshman Johnson recorded 21 tackles in six games.  His sophomore season got cut short due to an injury but not before recording 19 tackles on the season along with a quarterback hurry.  Johnson has 40 tackles in 13 career games.

Vivevca Nwagbaraocha played in 52 games over two seasons (2014-16) on the women’s basketball team.  She had a career high 12 points against Fayetteville State in January 2016 and added a career-best 10 rebounds two games later against Shaw university. Nwagbaraocha averaged 3.8 points per game her final season in 2015-16 ans finished her Lincoln career scoring 137 points.
