Today's installment  spotlights athletes who wore numbers 35 & 36

#35 became synonymous with Cory Thames during his four years on the men's basketball team (1992-96).  Thames became the eighth player in Lincoln basketball history to score 1000 career points in 1996 and was the Lions' second all-time leading scorer with 1,157 points at the conclusion of his career.  His point total is currently sixth on the Lions' all-time list.  He scored a career-high 31 points against Columbia union in the 94-95 season and grabbed a career high 26 rebounds in November 1995 against Maine-fort Kent. Thames was a member of the 1992 ESAC regular season championship team along with the 1993, 1994 and 1996 ECAC Southern Division championship teams. Thames was also named the Most Valuable Player in the 1994 championship tournament.  Thames was a 1994 pre-season all-American selection and earned both the San Cozen Player of the Week and Senior Appreciation Awards which were given out by the Philadelphia Area Small College Basketball Association.  Throughout his four-year career Thames was named to the All-Tournament team for seven different regular season tournaments, three of which he garnered tournament Most Valuable player honors.

Deion Miller was a four-year defensive back on the Lions’ football team from 2015-2018, playing in 38 of Lincoln’s 40 games.  He wore #36 for his first two seasons, switching to #35 for his final two years. Miller was an all-CIAA honoree in each of his last three seasons (either as a second team or honorable mention selection). In his final season, he with 48 tackles; third highest total on the team, notching a season-high eight against Johnson C. Smith on September 29. Following the season, Miller became the first Lincoln student-athlete to earn Philadelphia Academic All-Area honors three times (2016, 2017, 2018).He is one of just seven players to record 200 or more career tackles, finishing his career with 207.  He also ranks fifth on the Lions all-time list with 159 solo tackles.

David Miller played in 24 games over three seasons for the Lions’ football team from 2012-2015 wearing #35.  Starting his career as a running back in 2012, Miller had 18 yards rushing in seven games.  Miller was not on the team in 2013 and after returning, switched to defense, playing as a linebacker for his remaining two seasons, but saw most of his action on special teams. He saw action in 17 games over his final two seasons with four total tackles.

Jawon Jay saw action in 13 games over two seasons as a member of the Lions’ football team from 2017-18 wearing #36.  Used as a fullback mostly in 2017, Jay carried the ball three times for 16 yards, including an eight yard run at Bowie State.  He was also used on special teams throughout his two year career, picking up three tackles along the way.
