Playing in their third consecutive road contest to start the young season, the Lincoln University football team concluded the non-conference portion of their season with a 51-6 loss to Fayetteville State University Saturday night in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The Lions fall to 0-3 on the season. Fayetteville improves to 2-1.

Emmett Hunt (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) and
Eban Jackson II (Los Angeles, Calif./Narbonne) along with the Lions receiving corps provided the bulk of the offense on the evening. Hunt passed for 195 yards on 11 completions (20 attempts) while Jackson had five completions for 39 yards. Seven different players caught passes with
Shoye Sampson (Richmond, Va./John Marshall) leading the way with four catches.Â
Dah'mear Triplett (Elkton, Md./Elkton),
Richie Goslee (Suitland, Md./The Avalon School) and
Deontae Brockington (Randallstown, Md./Baltimore City College HS) had three apiece.Â

Hunt also threw the Lions lone touchdown pass late in the game, a 60 yard play to
Ricardo Patterson (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro).

On the defensive side,
Devon Cathcart (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) and
Vaughn Diggs (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) had seven tackles apiece to lead the Lions. Cathcart had the Lions lone sack of the game and had three tackles for loss. Lincoln had a total of 12 tackles resulting in loss of yardage over the course of the game.

Fayetteville State held the Lions offense in check until late in the game when Lincoln produced a three-play 69-yard drive to put their only points on the board.Â
Amir Gerald (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) had two rushes for nine yards gain before Hunt connected with Patterson for 60 yards and the score with just 1:16 on the clock.

The Lions finished the game with 278 yards total offense (234 passing, 44 rushing). Fayetteville State had 276 yards rushing and 238 passing to finish with 514 yards total offense.

The Broncos scored three touchdowns and produced a safety to take a 22-0 at halftime. FSU added three more touchdowns in the third quarter and another in the fourth to account for their 51 points.

Lincoln begins conference play on Saturday, September 28, 2019 when they host Livingstone College at Lions Stadium. The Blue Bears will enter the game with a 3-0 record. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
