Virginia Union University's passing game was just too strong for the Lincoln University football team as the Panthers handed the Lions their sixth loss of the season at LU's Homecoming Game at Lions Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The Lions fall to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) contests. The Panthers improve to 5-1 and 3-0 in league play.

Justin Johnson (Etters, Pa./Red Land) had the bulk of the Lions ground game, rushing for 40 yards on eight carries. Eban Jackson had nine completions for 68 yards, four of those to
Amir Gerald (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson).Â
Rashon Cooke (Sharon Hill, Pa./Lower Merion) also caught two passes.

On the defensive end
Ivan Mertilus (Revere, Mass./St. Clement) led all players with eight tackles while
Devon Cathcart (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) added seven. Four different Lincoln defenders recorded a sack on the afternoon while six different players recorded a tackle for loss

The Panthers passed for 397 yards, comprising the bulk of their 567 yards of total offense. Khalid Morris threw for 257 of those yards with four touchdowns while Khalil Wright added 140 more in the second half with one touchdown toss. Three different VUU receivers had four receptions apiece.

Tabyus Taylor, last season's CIAA rushing champion was held to just 95 yards on the ground, after running for 235 in last year's contest Taylor also scored two touchdowns Rodney McKay added 62 yards on the ground and a touchdown.

Panther kicker Jefferson Souza added two field goals, both in the second half.

VUU scored a touchdown on each of their five possessions in the first half and added a sixth in their opening possession in the third quarter.

Lincoln's
Andre Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) forced a fumble on a 45 yard completion from Wright to Woody Winborn which was recovered by LU's
Sadique Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastery Charter) on the Panthers next possession in the third quarter. Following a defensive stop giving the Panthers the ball back,VUU drove deep into Lions territory but had to settle for a Souza field goal to end the third quarter scoring.

The Panthers added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter and Souza drilled a 49-yard field goal to round out the scoring and make the final tally 62-0.

The Lincoln University football team returns to action next Saturday, October 19, 2019 when the TRAVEL TO Elizabeth city State University. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m.
