DeAshia Young's (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) driving layup with two seconds left capped off a rally from a double digit deficit as the Lincoln University women's basketball team defeated a regionally ranked opponent for the second consecutive game, knocking off Elizabeth city State University 60-57 at Manuel Rivero Gym Wednesday night.

The win was the fourth straight for the Lions as they improve to 11-9 overall, 5-4 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games and 2-0 in CIAA North division contests.  The Vikings, ranked tenth in the most recent D2SIDA Atlantic region poll fall to 12-8 overall, 4-5 in league contests and 1-1 in CIAA north division games.

The layup by Young capped a rally that saw Lincoln overcome a 15-point deficit with 5:28 left in the third quarter.  The junior transfer led the Lions with 16 points while grabbing seven rebounds.Â
Kenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) came off the bench to toss in 11 points (3 3pt. FG) and grab a team-high eight rebounds.Â
Alisia Machado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evars Prep (Grambling)) continued her steady play, also grabbing eight rebounds while chipping in eight points.
Dominique Allen (Upper Marlboro, Md./Takoma Academy) also had eight points (4-5 FG).  Young,
DeeDee Irwin (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) and
Deja Reynolds (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter (Temple)) each dished out three assists.

Young took over the game in the final two minutes, scoring the Lions final eight points. A three-point bucket at the 1:58 mark tied the game at 55-55 and following a Viking basket, young sank two free throws to again tie the game at 57-57 with 34 ticks left on the clock. A loose ball foul by ECSU gave the lions possession with eight seconds left, setting up the final play of the game where she received the inbounds, drove down the lane and banked in a shot with 2.2 seconds left and was fouled. Young completed the three point play for a 60-57 LU lead. The Vikings final three point shot was off the mark. Â

Leading up to the comeback, the Vikings jumped out to a double digit lead in the first quarter only to see the Lions cut the lead to six and led by as many as nine in the second before Lincoln cut the lead to three at the half 28-25.

ECSU opened the third quarter with a 16-4 run to take a 15-point lead 44-29 with 5:28 left in the period. The lions however roared back outscoring the Vikings 11-1 over the rest of the period to close the gap to five 45-40 heading into the fourth quarter.

Spencer's three-ball opened the fourth quarter and brought the Lions within two 45-43. The Vikings added three straight to go back up by five and led by four 51-47 with six minutes left when a spencer three-ball and a Reynolds jumper gave Lincoln a 52-51 lead, their first since leading 4-2 in the opening minutes of the game. Two straight baskets from the Vikings put them back on top by three 55-52 before Young took over.

Naterria Luster led the Vikings with 17 points and ten rebounds. Devonna Still added 10 points and 15 rebounds. Jalyn Brown chipped in 13.

The Lions committed a season low six turnovers while scoring 17 of their points off ECSU miscues (12). Lincoln shot 36.9% (24-65) for the game while Elizabeth city shot 30.9% (21-68). The Vikings held a 50-42 rebounding edge.

The Lions will square off against their third straight regionally ranked opponent on Saturday when they travel to play Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia. The Panthers are ranked third in the latest D2SIDa region poll and 16
th nationally. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
