Lions Host Claflin in Final Home Game of 2018

About the Lions:

Lincoln University enters Wednesday's game with a 5-7 overall record and a 1-2 mark in CIAA games.  The Lions defeated Livingstone College 89-76 Monday night to earn their first conference win of the season.
 
Through 12 games, DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) leads the team, averaging 15.2 points per game.  Young is shooting 49.1% from the field and is averaging six rebounds per game. She is also leads the team with 28 assists and 22 steals.
 
Kenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) leads the team with 12 blocks while averaging 10.3 points per game.  Her 25 assists ranks second on the team and she is tied for second on the squad with 15 steals.  Shakira Edwards (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) leads the team in free throw percentage (72.2%) and is averaging 9.8 points per game.
 
DeeDee Irwin (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) leads the team in three point field goal percentage, shooting 31.0% and is tied for second on the team with 15 steals. Alicia Machado leads the team in rebounding,  averaging 7.7 rebounds per game in ten games played.  She also leads the team in field goal percentage, shooting 58.2%.  Jada Queen (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) is second on the team field goal % shooting 52.1% from the field; has 88 total rebounds in 12 games for a 7.1 average and is second on the team with 11 blocked shots.

Shakira Edwards (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) led four scorers in double figures with a career-high 25 points as the Lincoln University women's basketball team pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn the first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association win of the season, defeating Livingstone College 89-76 at Manuel Rivero hall Monday night.
  
Edwards connected on nine of 14 shots from the field and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line, scoring a career high 25 points to lead all scorers.  Kwanza Murray (Summerville, S.C./Summerville (Lackawanna College)) reached the 20-point plateau for the second game in a row, notching an even 20 points on 7-14 shooting from the field (3-6 3FG, 3-3 FT).  Jada Queen recorded her second double-double of the season with a career-high 16 points and ten rebounds.  Kenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) rounded out the Lincoln double figure scorers with ten points.  Deja Reynolds dished out a career-high ten assists while Edwards and Murray added nine and seven rebounds respectively..
 

An Impressive Debut- Part II


Kwanza Murray (Summerville, S.C./Summerville (Lackawanna College)) was impressive in her Lincoln women's basketball debut on Saturday against Winston-Salem State, breaking the school record for three point field goals in a game and scoring 24 points.  Murray connected on six three point shots (in eight attempts) to break the school record of five held by four different players and last equaled by teammate DeeDee Irwin (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) last season.  The junior transfer from Lackawanna College finished the game with 24 points (9-16 FG) and added seven rebounds and one assist to lead the Lions.

CIAA Honors for Reynolds, Edwards

Lincoln University women's basketball players Deja Reynolds (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter (Temple))  and Shakira  earned Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Basketball weekly award honors for their performances during the week ending December 9, 2018. 
  
Edwards was named the CIAA Rookie of the Week while Reynolds was named the CIAA Newcomer of the Week.  This week's honors are the second for both players with Reynold's earning Newcomer of the Week honors back on November 21 and Edwards garnering Rookie of the Week honors a week earlier.
 

An  Impressive Debut

In the Lions win over University of the District of Columbia on Nov. 14, Alisia Machado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evars Prep (Grambling)) became just the third Lincoln women's basketball player in the program's NCAA Division II history to record 17 or more rebounds in a game, joining teammate Shahra Madison (Chesapeake, Va./Norfolk Collegiate School (Chesapeake College)) (19 last season vs. Bowie State (1/13)) and Michelle  Fitzgerald (17 last season at Bowie State (2/7))
 
  

Scouting the Panthers

The Blue Bears are currently 6-7 overall  and 4-3 in CIAA games following a 60-50 loss at Bowie state on Monday. The Panthers have dropped their last three games.
 
Three players are averaging double figures scoring for the Panthers, led by Ashley Fields.  Fields is averaging 15.5 points per game.  She also leads the team in rebounding (6.8/gm.), assists (28) blocks (11) and is shooting a team best 45.6% from the field.
 
Deja Dickens is averaging 11.8 points per game and leads the team in three point field goal percentage (36.3%).  Dashia Jackson rounds out the Claflin double figure scorers, averaging 11.2 points per game.  She also  leads the team with 36 steals.
 
As a team the Panthers are averaging 58.77 points point game while giving up an average of 65.08 points per game.  Claflin is  shooting 33.7% from the field; 29.6% from three-point range and 61.3% from the free throw line.
 

Last Time Out for Claflin

Bowie State University scored six of the games last seven points in holding off the Claflin University Lady Panthers, 60-50, in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) contest on Monday (Dec. 17).
 
The loss was Claflin's third straight.
 
Ashley Fields led three Claflin players in double-figures with 18 points (8-of-10 from the free-throw line).  She also pulled in eight rebounds, with three blocks and three assists. Dashia Jackson and Shakarri Mack added 10 points each for the Lady Panthers.
 
Claflin had four three-pointers in the game with Jackson and Deja Dickens accounting for two apiece.
