The Lincoln University Women's Volleyball Team fought off six match points from Bowie State University as they rallied to defeat the Bulldogs 18-16 in the fifth and final set to take the match 3-2 Friday night at Manuel Rivero Hall.

The match was the Lions final match of the season as they conclude their 2018 campaign with a 2-22 overall record and a 2-15 record in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association matches. Both Lincoln wins came against the Bulldogs who finished their season at 3-19 overall and 0-17 in league play.

Tierra Russaw (Westland , Mich./Summit Academy) and
Kaiya Lewis (Woodhaven, N.Y./Queens Preparatory Academy) led the Lions with ten kills apiece.Â
Alisa Foster (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) had 31 assists and three aces. Â
Janae Stackhouse (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore PolyTech) also had three aces to go along with nine kills. On the defensive side
Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) led all players with 24 digs while
Taylor Williams (Baltimore, Md.) added ten. Lewis had a match-high six blocks and
Kaylarose Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y./Hudson Catholic) added five blocks.

Soljaia Jones led the Bulldogs with 12 kills while Madison Marshall added ten. Shalom Oso-Omogie led the team with three aces while Chelsea Beaudoin paced Bowie state with 15 digs.  Â

The two teams split the first four sets with the Lions winning the first and third sets 25-23 and 25-21 and the Bulldogs taking the second and fourth sets with identical 25-18 scores.

In the fifth set, the Lions scored the first four points only to have the Bulldogs rally to score seven of the next eight and lead 7-5. A kill from Stackhouse brought the Lincoln back within two 11-9 before Bowie State pushed the set to match point with three straight points to lead 14-9. Stackhouse's kill gave the serve back to the Lions and cut the lead two 14-10. Foster followed with two straight aces to close the gap to 14-12 and force a BSU timeout. Stackhouse added another kill and a Bulldog attack error followed as the Lions tied the match at 14-14, having held off five opportunities for Bowie State to win the match.Â

Marshall swung the pendulum back towards the Bulldogs with a kill putting BSU on top 15-14 before Stackhouse struck again with a kill and Scott following suit to give the Lions a 16-15 lead. A kill from Jones tied the score again at 16-16. Two straight attack errors by the Bulldogs followed and the Lions had an 18-16 set win and a 3-2 win in the match. Â
