About the Lions
The Lincoln University women's basketball team opened their season last weekend at the KU Conference Challenge hosted by Kutztown University.   The Lions opened the tournament Friday night with an 86-71 win over host Kutztown.  DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) led all scorers, exploding for 31 points.  Shakira Edwards (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) came off the bench to score 11 points and Jada Queen (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) added ten.  Young narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.

The Lions rallied from a 15-point third quarter deficit to defeat the regionally ranked Golden Bears, outscoring their hosts 26-8 in the fourth quarter.  DeeDee Irwin (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) hit two three-point field goals to open the fourth quarter and give Lincoln their first lead since two minutes into the game and the Lions offense took over from there, pulling away for the double digit win.

In game two, Edwards recorded her first collegiate double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds but the Lions offense sputtered in the fourth quarter as the Huskies rallied to earn a 54-47 win.  Kenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) led Lincoln with 15 points and Queen added ten to round out the double figure scorers.

Scouting the Firebirds
UDC  Split their two games at the Wilmington University Tip-off Classic last weekend, losing their opener to Holy Family University 88-42 while beating host Wilmington 81-59.

Natasha Roy and Danielle Harrington led the Firebirds in their loss to the Tigers, scoring ten points apiece.  UDc struggled to find the bottom of the net for much of the game, shooting just 26.2% from the field.  Dana Harrington led UDC with nine rebounds.
In the Firebirds' win over Wilmington, Roy scored 18 points to lead three UDC players in double figures.  She also led the team with five assists. Etaliya Vogt and Tyra Coombs added 11 points apiece.  Coombs and Patricia Allen had eight rebounds apiece.

Five straight points from Vogt late in the second quarter gave the Firebirds the lead  they would not relinquish, ending the first half with a five point advantage and increasing it  to as many as 23 points before settling in for the big win.
