The Lincoln University women's basketball team lost their first game of the 2018-19 season as Bloomsburg University rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat the Lions 54-47.
Lincoln falls to 1-1 with the loss. Bloomsburg improves to 2-0.
Kenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) led the Lions with 15 points while
Shakira Edwards (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) recorded a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.Â
Jada Queen (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) led the Lions with 11 rebounds while pumping in nine points.
Taylor Montana led the Huskies with 13 points while Bella Ricci added 11. Darcy Lee led Bloomsburg with 11 rebounds.
The two teams battled  throughout the first two quarters with neither team holding more than a two-possession advantage and the Lions closing out the half with a two point lead 21-19.Â
The Huskies tied the score two minutes into the third quarter before the Lions went on a 9-2 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 30-23 with four minutes left in the third period, getting two baskets from Edwards, one from Queen and free throws from Spencer and
Deja Reynolds (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter (Temple)). Bloomsburg shaved three points off the lead by the end of the quarter and the Lions had a 36-32 lead heading into the final quarter.
Bloomsburg scored six straight points to start the fourth quarter to pull ahead 38-36. Spencer followed with a three-pointer to put the Lions back on top 39-38 before BU's Alyssa Mack made a traditional three-point play to shift the advantage back to the Huskies. Spencer tied the game with two more free throws at the 5:05 mark before the Lions offense went ice cold. The Huskies took advantage with an 11-1 run over the next four minutes to take a 52-42 lead with 1:11 left. Lincoln was 0-for-8 from the field and made just one of four free throws during the Huskies scoring run.
Spencer broke the field goal drought with a three pointer with 24 seconds left cutting the lead to seven but that was as close as the Lions would get.
The women's basketball resumes action on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 when they take on University of the District of Columbia in their home opener at Manuel Rivero Hall. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
