The Lincoln University football team lost their second Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) North Division game on Saturday, falling to Virginia State University 54-7.

The Lions record is now 1-2 in CIAA North Division contests, 1-3 in all CIAA games and 1-7 overall. Virginia State' records are now 2-1 in divisional play, 3-1 in all CIAA contests and 4-3 overall.

Lincoln's offense was paced by quarterback
Vincent Espinoza (Madera, Calif /Madera (West Hills)) who threw for 171 yards on 24 completions with one touchdown pass, accounting for nearly 70% of the Lions total offense. Â
Lavelle Cloyd (Lexington, Ky./Bryan Station (Kentucky State)) led the ground game with 71 yards rushing.  He also caught a team high six passes.Â
Deontae Brockington (Randallstown, Md. /Baltimore City College HS) and
Reginald Mays Jr. (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin (Frostburg)) had five catches apiece.

Defensively,
Devon Cathcart (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) and
Isiah Turner (Philadelphia, Pa. /Olney Charter) led the team with five tackles apiece.Â
Andre Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) and
Anthony Spinner (Los Angeles, Calif. /Hamilton (Adams State)) each had a sack.
Jaylon Dean (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Creek) had a fumble recovery on special teams.

VSU's Cordelral Cook accounted for just over 50% of the Trojans offense completing 16 of 19 passes for 214 yards and four touchdowns and rushing for a team high 28 yards. Nicholas Winston threw for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Demetrius Strickland rushed for VSU's lone score on the ground.

The Trojans scored the first two touchdowns to lead 12-0 before the Lions put together a 13-play 69-yard drive culminating in a six yard toss from Espinoza to Brockington for the touchdown.Â
Cole Klubek (Biloxi, Miss.) added the extra point to make the score 12-7.

Tyree Davis returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for the third VSU score as the quarter ended.

The Lions had another opportunity late in the second half but their 12-play drive stalled at fourth and goal with just over a minute left in the first half.  VSU added a quick score before the half ended to lead 33-7.

The Trojans added three more touchdowns in the third quarter to round out the scoring.

Lincoln will return home to face CIAA North Division leader Bowie State University in their final home game of the season on Saturday, October 27, 2018.
