The Lincoln University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Virginia Union University as the Panthers defeated the Lions 3-0 and 3-0 at Manuel Rivero Hall.

The volleyball doubleheader came about as a result of the September match between Lincoln and Virginia Union being postponed due to Hurricane Florence which battered North Carolina and Virginia. The Lions fall to 1-16 overall and 1-13 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games.  The Panthers improve to 10-12 overall and 9-4 in league action. Â

The Panthers won with first match with set scores of 25-10, 25-21 and 25-17Â and then took the second with scores of 25-6, 25-10 and 25-7.

In the opener
Kaiya Lewis (Woodhaven, N.Y./Queens Preparatory Academy) led the Lions with seven kills. Tatyanna Charles had nine assists and
Alisa Foster (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) added eight setting the offense for Lincoln. On the defensive side
Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) has 11 digs. Lewis also finished the match with three blocks.

A trio of Union players finished the match with seven kills apiece; Ambryanna Moore, Jada Starling and Taurie Magee. A'maria Wright had 12 asssits and Minne Masoe added 10 setting up the VUU offense. Jamaica Adams led all players with 15 digs.

In the nightcap,
Kaylarose Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y./Hudson Catholic) led the Lions with five kills while Charles led the team with eight assists. Crudup again led the team with seven digs while
Taylor Williams (Baltimore, Md.) added five.

Zaquae Downton led the Panthers with eight kills while Wright had 14 assists and five service aces. Adams again led the team with 17 digs.

The women's volleyball team returns to action on Friday, October 19, 2018 when they host Jefferson University. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
