Â
Lincoln struggled the entire game with their ball control, with half of the issues coming from the pressure and trapping defense put on by Chowan, preventing the Lions from firmly getting set in their offense. The Lions committed a season high 30 turnovers which led to 36 points for the Hawks, half of their offensive output.
Â
Chowan also dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Lions 46-38, including 20 offensive rebounds, leading to 18 second chance points.
Â
Neither team led by more than two possessions throughout the first two quarters, with the Lions holding a six point lead 10-4 with 4:34 left in the first quarter and the Hawks hold their largest first half lead of four points 26-22 with 5:26 to go in the second. There were six ties and eight lead changes over the first 20 minutes of action.
Â
The back and fourth play continued over the first four minutes of the third quarter with two more lead changes and another tie, 37-37 at the 6:12 mark.  Chowan followed with a 10-1 spurt to lead by nine 47-38 with 4:20 left. The Lions closed the gap to four with five straight points before Weldon and Jada Lee put Chowan back up by eight at the end of three quarters.
Â
Chowan scored the first nine points of the final quarter to push their lead to 17, 60-43 with 8:02 left. Lincoln countered with ten straight points to pull within seven at 60-53 but that would be as close as they would come the rest of the way.
Â
The women's basketball team will return to action on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 when they travel to Salem, West Virginia for a non conference game against Salem University.
