Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lions Drop 1-0 Contest to Shaw University

The Lincoln University women's soccer team returned to action Wednesday afternoon, hosting Shaw University at Lions Stadium.  The visiting Bears  scored first and made it stand up for a 1-0 win.

The loss drops the Lions record to 3-5 while Shaw improves to 2-4.

The two teams played a scoreless first half and nearly halfway through the second when Shaw's Alana Navarrette  kicked a long shot towards the goals that tipped off the fingers of lions goalkeeper Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) and into the net, giving Shaw the only score they would need.

Rodriquez had five saves on the day while SU backup goalie Laura Regidor also had five stops..

Offensively, the Lions were led by Alana Ward (Holly Springs, N.C./Trotwood Madison (Ohio)) and Samanta Sosa (Roatán, Bay Islands, Honduras/Freedom (Harris-Stowe)) both registered two shot on goals each.  Shaw finished with a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal and 9-8 in total shots.  The Lions recorded five corner kicks in the second half and finished the game with a 5-4 advantage.

The Lions return to action on Friday when they play an exhibition match at Hampton University.
