Bulldogs Sweep Doubleheader from Lions

Bowie State University softball swept a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA) doubleheader from Lincoln University on Sunday, defeating the Lions 23-0 and 8-0.

The Lions fall to 4-18 overall, 1-10 in CIAA games and 0-6 in the North division.  With the victories the Bulldogs improve to 12-12 overall, 9-1 in the CIAA and 4-0 in the North.
BSU's Stefanie Ray earned both wins while tossing a perfect game in game two.   Alexis Harrod (Kiribati, South Korea/Seoul American HS) took both losses for Lincoln.

Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich./Summit Academy) had the Lions lone hit on the afternoon, a single in the second inning of the opener.  Harrod was the only other Lincoln player to reach base, drawing a walk in the fourth inning.

Ray struck out 13 batters in each of the two games while walking only one as she improves to 9-5 on the season.

Iyana Jones drove in seven runs for the Bulldogs in the opener as she hit for the cycle with a single and a three run home run in the first inning, an RBI double in the third, and a two-RBI triple in the fourth.   Jaelyn Belt also belted a three run home run for the Bulldogs.

Jones drove in three more runs in game two on a double and a single to finish the afternoon with six hits and ten RBI.   Ja'seph Smith also had six hits over the two games for the Bulldogs.

Lincoln returns to action on April 17, 2017 when they travel to play Trinity College for a non conference doubleheader.  The Lions will conclude their season with home doubleheaders against Chowan University on April 22 and Elizabeth City State University on April 23.
