The Lincoln University women's basketball team placed four players in double figures but it was not enough to overcome a strong shooting effort from Johnson c. Smith University as the Golden Bulls snapped the Lions four-game win streak with an 86-64 win at Brayboy Gym in Charlotte, North Carolina Thursday night.
The Lions fall to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games. Â The Golden Bulls improve to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Michelle Fitzgerald (Baltimore, Md./Md. Academy of Tech & Health Science (N.C. A & T)) came off the bench to lead the team with 13 points (5-10 FG).Â
Shahra Madison (Chesapeke, Va./Norfolk Collegiate School (Chesapeke College)) recorded her third consecutive double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.Â
McKenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) and
Teira Pendleton (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytech) added 11 and 10 points respectively.
Jasmine Carter led the Golden Bulls with 24 points while Kendall Adams added 14 points and Asha Jordan 13.
JCSU shot 50% or better in each quarter and finished the game shooting 52.5% (31-59). The Golden Bulls were also hot from beyond the arc, making seven of ten from deep in the first half and finishing the game shooting 50% (9-18).  The Lions meanwhile struggled to make baskets, connecting on just 22 of 68 shots (32.4%) and 7-19 from deep (36.8%)
It was in the second quarter that the Golden Bulls took control, opening  the period with a 10-2 run, connecting on four of five shots (two from deep) to erase the Lions two point lead and pull ahead 26-20. A three-pointer from
Brianna Logan (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley (Siena)) and a bucket from Madison closed the gap to one but JCSU finished out the half on a 9-3 flourish to lead 35-28 at the break.  JCSU outshot the Lions 53.8% to 28.1% in the half.
A high scoring third quarter saw the Lions close the gap to one with a 9-3 spurt in the latter part of the period with Fitzgerald and Madison combining for the first six points of the run and
Shecquan Bailey (Salisbury, Md./Snow Hill (Baltimore City C.C.))'s three-pointer capping it off at the 2:43 mark with the score 52-51. JCSU however ended the quarter with an 8-2 run to go back up by seven 60-53 heading into the final quarter.
Fitzgerald's basket at the 8:52 mark cut the Golden Bulls lead to five at 62-57.  From there it was all JCSU, rattling off nine straight points to push the lead to double digits at 71-57. Fitzgerald followed with two free throws and Spencer added a trey to cut the deficit back to single digits at 71-62. The Golden Bulls finished the game on a 15-2 flourish with Pendleton's basket at the 3:32 mark the only score for Lincoln.
The women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, December 16, 2107 when they play Winston-Salem State University in the second game of their three game southern swing. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
