Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lions Fall at Morgan State

The Lincoln University women's basketball team turned in a good team effort in Wednesday night's exhibition game at Morgan State University.  The Division I Bears however proved to be too strong for the Lions as they pulled away in the second half to earn a 60-41 win.

Ariana Fleming (Newark, Del./Hodgon Vo-Tech) was the lone Lincoln player in double figures with ten points.  Shecquan Bailey (Salisbury, Md./Snow Hill (Baltimore City C.C.)) added eight and grabbed six rebounds. DeeDee Irwin (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) also came off the bench to score eight points.  Diamond Mickle (Fredericksburg, Va./Paul VI Catholic (Harford CC)) led the team with nine rebounds.

The Bears put three players in double figures led by Braennan Farrar's 15 points and ten rebounds.  Adre'ona Coleman added 14 points while Lexus Spears chipped in 11.
Lincoln made just eight field goals in the game while producing 21 of their 41 points on the free throw line.  Half of those eight baskets were from three-point range with Irwin accounting for two of them.  Fleming scored eight of her ten points at the free throw line.

Morgan State used a 17-7 run spanning the first two quarters to jump out to a double digit lead 26-14 with 4:18 left in the second period.  The lions clawed their way back into the game with an 8-1 flourish to close out the quarter, getting two baskets from Mickle and a three-ball from Irwin along with a foul shot from Fleming to pull within five at the break 27-22.

Bailey's triple early in the third quarter closed the gap to four at 30-26 but a 9-1 flourish by the Bears increased the lead back to double digits at6 39-27 with 4:07 left.  Fleming's layup at the 2:45 mark cujt the lead to ten at 39-29 but that would be as close as the Lions would get the rest of the way as the Bears pulled away in the fourth quarter to gain the 19-point win.

Next up for Lincoln is a road clash at Jefferson University on Sunday, November  18, 2017. Tipoff is set for 3:00 pm.
