Box Score The Lincoln University women's soccer team closed out their season Wednesday evening and honored their three senior players as they lost to Salem University 5-2 at Lions Stadium.
The Lions finished the season with a 6-11 record, a three game improvement from their 3-11-1 mark from 2016. The Tigers improved to 5-11 with the win.
The team's three seniors along with their senior manager were honored in a brief ceremony at halftime of the game.Â
Taylor Brookins (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.),
Serena Melendrez (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) and
Taylor Brantley (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick) were playing in their final games of their career. All three players have started in every game they were available to play this season with a couple of missed contests due to injury. Brantley, a defender, scored her first goal of her career earlier this year against Trinity while Melendrez scored LU's first goal of the season against Washington Adventist and finished the year with five points (one goal, three assists). Brookins has been a solid defensive midfielder throughout the season and was one of just three Lincoln field players to average 80 or more minutes a game.

Kayla Butts (Lansdowne, Pa./Bonner-Prendergast). Butts had entered the game just 30 seconds prior to her goal, which was her sixth of the season.
The Tigers scored three unanswered goals in the second half with a long shot from Jackie Zavala getting past Lions goalkeeper Alana Ward in the 49
th minute and a pair of goals by Jasmine Seaton, the first coming in the 73
rd minute and her second in the 80
th minute. Â Â
Samanta Sosa scored Lincoln's final goal of the game, breaking ahead of the pack with two minutes left in the game to make the final score 5-2. It was Sosa's second goal of the season.
The game marked the conclusion of the 2017 season for the Lincoln Women's Soccer team. Lincoln's game scheduled for Saturday November 4, 2017 at Shaw University has been cancelled and not be made up.
