The Lincoln University women's soccer team won their second consecutive road contest Wednesday afternoon, exploding for eight goals, half off the foot of junior forward
Diana Martinez (Kissimmee, Fla./St. Cloud) as they defeated Trinity Washington University, 8-0 in Washington, D.C.

The win completes season sweep of the Tigers as the Lions improve to 5-7 on the season. Trinity falls to 5-5.

Martinez became just the third player in program history to record four or more goals in a game, joining Tara O'Brien (2012) and Stephanie Anderson (2008 & 2009). Anderson holds the school record with five goals in a game, also set against Trinity in September 2008. All four of Martinez's goals were scored in the second half. She also added an assist to give her nine points on the afternoon, one shy of Anderson's record of ten. Martinez also finished the game with a school record 18 shots taken.

Freshman
Cedar Davidson (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada/Aurora) notched her first career hat-trick and became the eighth Lions player in program history to do so and the third this season to score at least three times in one match.

Lincoln's remaining goal was scored by
Tara Brookins (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) late in the second half. It was her third goal of the season. Goalkeeper
Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) recorded her third shutout of the season

Davidson started the scoring in the first half with an unassisted chip shot that went over Tiger goalkeeper Laura Lusuli's head at the 18:17 mark.  Late in the half Martinez found Davidson open from about 20 yards out after a corner kick and the freshman put the ball just inside the post for her second goal and a 2-0 Lions lead.

Martinez took over in the second half. In the 49
th minute she broke past the defense and took a pass from
Jasmide Bernard (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) and beat the Triny keeper low to give the Lions a 3-0 lead. She followed that with her second gola of the game just 67 seconds later in the 50
th minute, taking a freekick from
Taylor Brantley (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick) that sailed over the defense. Martinez took the pass on the breakaway for her second score.  At the 54:03 mark, Martinez completed a natural the natural hat-trick with her third consecutive goal, taking a corner kick from
Samanta Sosa (Roatán, Bay Islands, Honduras/Freedom (Harris-Stowe)) and blasting it in under the crossbar from 15 yards out.  She completed the quadruple following a steal from the defense and a perfect shot from 20 yards oujt in the 77
th minute giving Lincoln a 6-0 lead.

Brookins made the score 7-0, receiving a cross from Sosa and scoring on a wide open shot from six yards out.  Davidson scored the final goal to complete her hat trick in the 87
th minute. Her goal was unassisted.

The Lions took a school record 39 shots in the contest, 26 of them were on goal. The Tigers managed just four total shot just two of which were on goal.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 seeking to win their third consecutive game, all on the road as they play Salem International University in Salem, West Virginia.
