The Lincoln University women's volleyball team dropped a hard fought road contest Monday night, falling at Virginia State University 3-1 in Ettrick, Virginia.

The Trojans took the first two sets, 254-18 and 25-16 before the Lions roared back to win the third set 25-20. VSU then took the match with a 25-19 fourth set win.

The Lions fall to 3-11 overall and 1-10 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) contests. Virginia State improves to 5-13 overall and 5-4 in league play.

Mariah Russell (St Louis Mo./Maplewood Richmond Heights) led the Lions with ten kills while
Aubury Coleman (Mason City, Iowa/ Mason City) added eight.Â
Alisa Foster (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Acad.) had 20 assists setting the Lincoln offense. On the defensive side,
Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) recorded 19 digs and was the only Lions player in double figures.
Kaylarose Scott (Orange, N.J./Hudson Catholic) notched three blocks while Coleman added two.

Kennedy Cannon and Jailyn Ivey led the Trojans with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Miranda Bass set the VSU offense with 37 assists. Jasmine Jones recorded four aces. Jones, Ivey and Bria Anderson led the team with 14 digs apiece.

The Lions finished the match with a slightly better attack% (.155 to.150) but had 15 fewer kills (30-45). VSU held a 13-3 advantage in service aces while committing five fewer service errors (9) than the Lions (14).

The women's volleyball team returns to action on Thursday, October 12, 2017 when they host University of the Sciences at Manuel Rivero Hall. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
