The Lincoln University women's volleyball team saw their season come to an end Friday afternoon as they lost 3-0 to top seed Shaw University in the quarterfinals of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) volleyball championship in Petersburg, Virginia and hosted by Virginia State University.
Shaw swept the match with scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-13. The Lions conclude their season with a 7-23 record.   Shaw moves onto the CIAA Semi-finals with a 20-7 mark.
Freshman
Atarah Lindsey (Detroit, Mich./Romulus High School) led the Lions with six kills and also added eight digs on defense.Â
Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich./Summit Academy) led the team with nine digs.Â
Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) recorded 11 assists in her final collegiate game, becoming the first player in program history to record 500 or more assists in a season. She finished the year with 510. Â
Shaw was led by Keveesha Wattley's nine kills.  Aisja Jones and Kelly Murphy added eight kills apiece. Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez handed out a match-high 32 assists and 11 digs in the win.
The Lions had their only lead of the match in the opening volleys of the third set.Â
Aundrea Hall (San Antonio, Texas/Naples HS (Italy)) served an ace to open the set and after Shaw tied the score at 1-1.Â
Mariah Russell (St Louis Mo./Maplewood Richmond Heights) delivered a kill and king followed with an ace to make the score 3-1. Two straight points from Shaw against tied the score and a Lady Bears attack error followed by a
Corian Campbell (Newark, NJ/No. 13th HS) kill gave LU a 5-3 lead. The Lady Bears then took over, going on a 6-1 run to grab the 9-6 lead. Two Shaw errors cut the gap to 9-8 and Shaw followed with five straight points to open up a six-point lead 14-8 forcing a Lions timeout. LU scored following the timeout to close within five 14-9 but that would be as close as they got the rest of the way as the Lady Bears pulled away to win the set 25-13 and the match 3-0.
Lincoln put up a battle in the first set, rebounding from a 16-10 deficit to close within one 17-16 before Shaw closed the set out with an 8-3 run. Shaw jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the second set and never looked back en route to a 25-14 win to go up 2-0 in the match.
