Lady Lions Stumble at Home in Double Header Versus Philadelphia

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) had an RBI single against Philadelphia University in game one of a double header on Monday, April 6th at the LU Softball Field. The Lady Rams defeated the Lady Lions 26-1 & 26-0.

Emily Woodruff (San Diego, CA/Madison HS) led off the bottom of the first inning with a single past first base. She then stole second base and advanced to third on a groundout. The Lady Lions scored their first run of the game on an RBI single by Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS). Smith's singled up the middle bringing Woodruff for a Lincoln 1-0 lead.

Philadelphia scored five runs in the second inning, eight runs in the third inning, two runs in the fourth and 11 runs in the fifth for a 26-1 victory. LU's Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) had her second hit of the game in the third inning with a double to center field. In the bottom of the fifth inning Woodruff singled to shortstop and stole her second base of the game. Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) drew the only walk for Lincoln. Pitcher Danielle Owes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington County Institute) struck out two batters in five innings on the mound.

In game two Philadelphia shut out Lincoln 26-0. Amber Cale (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) had the only hit for the Lady Lions with a single to second base in the bottom of the fifth inning. Danielle Owes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington County Institute) had two strikeouts in the loss as the Lady Lions fall to 0-18.

Lincoln travels to Wilmington, De for a double header on Tuesday, April 7th against Goldey-Beacom College.
