BOWIE, Md. – Lincoln closed out their regular season with a 3-1 victory over CIAA rival Bowie State University on the road on Friday, November 13
th. Junior
Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) and senior
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) both reached double figure kills, with 14 and 12 respectively.
Lincoln won the first two sets 25-16 and 25-15.
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) and
Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) both had three kills in the opening set sparking the Lady Lions. Senior
Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) led defensively with seven digs and senior
Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) recorded a solo block. Bowie State struggled with four kills and five errors while Lincoln shined with ten total kills.
In the second set, senior
Soyini Hugget (Bear, DE/Delaware Tech CC)t exploded with four kills keeping LU ahead in the match. Lee added on three kills of her own and once again Cook gathered seven digs in a 25-15 win. Lincoln once again held an advantage in the battle of kills against Bowie State, 9-6 heading into the third set.
Bowie State took set three 25-21. The Lady Lions committed six errors and Bowie State took off with 15 total kills. In the fourth set Russell elevated her play with seven kills closing out the match 25-16. Lincoln cleaned up their attack striking 12 kills with only two errors.
The Lady Lions dominated with a season-best 40 kills in their four set win over Bowie State.
Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) finished with a team season-best 14 kills and
Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) had her second best outing of the season with 26 total assists.
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) connected on a season-best four aces, while
Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) posted 22 digs and
Kyra Orton (Detroit, MI/Renaissance HS) had 11 digs.
Lincoln ends their regular season with a 6-13 overall record. They went 5-11 in CIAA play and 4-6 against the CIAA Northern Division. The Lady Lions head into the upcoming CIAA Volleyball Championships seated fourth in the CIAA Northern Division.
