LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - The Lady Lions made eight three-pointers in a CIAA Northern Divisional victory against Elizabeth City State University, 79-54, on Wednesday, January 21
st in Manuel Rivero Hall.
Three Lady Lions reached double figure scoring led by junior
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS)'s 17 points. Smith made four three-pointers, had six rebounds, and three steals against the Lady Vikings. Junior
Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) finished with 14 points, three rebounds, and three steals while junior
Lisa Saunders (Hampton, VA/Hampton HS) scored 11 points. Senior
Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) had a game-high nine rebounds off of the LU bench.
Defensively, the Lady Lions held the Lady Vikings to 15-of-54 (27-percent) field goal percentage. LU shot a season-high 52-percent from the field and dished out a 20 assists. Junior
LenNee Kimbell (PG County, MD/Howard Community College) had four assists and led the bench scoring with six points.
In the opening minutes of action both teams got off to positive starts. Lincoln used a 9-0 run in a span of two minutes to open a 20-11 advantage by the 11:59 mark in the first half.
Lisa Saunders (Hampton, VA/Hampton HS) and
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) both made shots from behind the arc followed by a
Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) layup highlighted the Lady Lions run. Elizabeth City State fell behind by double digits with 1:37 remaining in the half, but scored a pair of baskets in the final 36-seconds to cut the Lady Lions lead to 36-29 at halftime.
Lincoln came out the half expanding their lead to 45-31 in the first three minutes.
Lisa Saunders (Hampton, VA/Hampton HS) and
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) both scored eight second half points and the LU defense held the Lady Vikings to five made field goals (20-percent). Lincoln made 5-of-8 (62-percent) from three-point range and held a 29-14 rebounding advantage. With 1:23 left in regulation, Elizabeth City State was down by 30 points (78-48). The Lady Lions cruised to a 79-54 home victory against the Lady Vikings.
Elizabeth City State was led by Jadda Jefferies game-high 22 points and Jasmine Boyd's 17 points.
Lincoln improves to 13-4 overall, 5-2 in the CIAA conference with a 2-0 Northern Divisional record. The Lady Lions will hit the road against Virginia Union University on Saturday, January 24
th at 2 p.m. in Richmond, VA.
