Lions Pick Up Win at CIAA Volleyball Roundup

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Junior Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) and freshman Ashanti Price (Upper Marlboro, MD/Bishop McNamara HS) combined for 29 kills leading the Lions to a 3-1 (25-12, 25-17, 23-25, 25-15) CIAA victory over Shaw at the CIAA Volleyball Roundup hosted by Fayetteville State University on Saturday, September 27th. The Lions dropped their later game to St. Augustine's 3-1 (19-25, 27-25, 21-25, 19-25).

Lincoln dominated the Bears by forcing 40 team turnovers and capitalizing off of 43 kills. Ashanti Price (Upper Marlboro, MD/Bishop McNamara HS) recorded a game-high 16 kills and added eight digs. Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) also reached double figure kills with 13 and had two service aces against the Bears. Sophomores Kyra Orton (Detroit, MI/Renaissance HS) and Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) had a great match combining for 32 assists. King had 19 assists setting up her teammates while Orton had 13 along with 23 digs. Junior Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) led the defense with a game-high 32 digs and the Lions picked up their first CIAA win improving to 2-7, 1-6 CIAA record.

The Lions battled St. Augustine's in their later game on the opening day of the CIAA Volleyball Roundup. Lincoln loss 3-1 led by Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute)'s 11 kills. Ashanti Price (Upper Marlboro, MD/Bishop McNamara HS) had nine kills while junior Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) added seven kills for the Lions. Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) recorded a game-high 21 digs while Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) posted a team-high 16 assists. Lincoln was held to 34 kills and had 33 errors against St. Augustine's.

The Lions will play Fayetteville State University at 10 am on Sunday, September 27th.
