LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Three Lions reached double-figure digs led by sophomore
Kyra Orton (Detroit, MI/Renaissance HS)'s game-high 17, but the Lions fell 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-14, 25-22) to Elizabeth City State University on Sunday, September 21
st in Manuel Rivero Hall.
Lincoln bounced back after losing the first set to the Vikings 25-20. Lincoln forced 13 ECSU errors while junior
Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) and freshman
Ashanti Price (Upper Marlboro, MD/Bishop McNamara HS) tallied three kills apiece in the second set leading the Lions to a 25-21 victory. Sophomore
Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) set her teammates up with four assists and
Kyra Orton (Detroit, MI/Renaissance HS) had five digs in that set.
The Vikings (3-7, 3-2, 1-1) went on to win the next two sets over the Lions picking up their first CIAA Northern Divisional victory. Lincoln falls to 1-6 and 0-2 in CIAA Northern Divisional play.
Ashanti Price (Upper Marlboro, MD/Bishop McNamara HS) paced the Lions with 11 kills and 14 digs. Price reached double-figure kills and digs for the third time this season. Junior
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) added eight kills and
Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) finished with five kills. Junior
Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) and
Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) combined for 25 assists with Cook recording 10 assists and King finishing with 15 assists. Lincoln won the defensive battle with 63 digs to Elizabeth City State's 54.
Kyra Orton (Detroit, MI/Renaissance HS) had 17,
Ashanti Price (Upper Marlboro, MD/Bishop McNamara HS) had 14, and
Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) had 12 digs.
The Lions will host Chowan University in their next match on Monday, September 21
st at home at 6 p.m.
