Lady Lions Stumble on the Road to Elizabeth City State, 64-54

Box Score Elizabeth City, NC – Sophomore forward, Lisa Saunders (Hampton, VA/Hampton HS) scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the second half rallying the Lady Lions, but Elizabeth City State held on for a 64-54 win in the R.L. Vaughan Center on Wednesday, January 22nd.

The Lady Lions had 12 points in the paint and out-rebounded the Lady Vikings 25-12 in the first half. Sophomore guard, Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) had seven points and four rebounds while junior forward Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) added five points with four rebounds to pace Lincoln early. Elizabeth City State scored 11 points off of 13 Lincoln turnovers and led 25-23 at the half.

In the second half, Lisa Saunders (Hampton, VA/Hampton HS) carried Lincoln with 11 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the field. The Lady Lions made five three-pointers in the final period behind three made by sophomore Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) and two by Saunders. The Lady Vikings went to the free-throw line 17 times and converted on 11 while Lincoln only made six. ECSU also made 13-of-25 shots from the field, led by as many as 15 points midway through the half, and went on to win 64-54.

Two Lady Lions netted double-figures against Elizabeth City State. Lisa Saunders (Hampton, VA/Hampton HS) led with 13 points including two made shots from long range off the LU bench. Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) had 11 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Pam was 5-for-9 from the free-throw line as the Lady Lions converted on 52% (12-23) of their attempts. Sophomore guard, Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) made three shots from behind the arc and dished out a team-high four assists and junior forward, Courtney Lucas (Washington, DC/Friendship Collegiate Academy) grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists.

Lincoln falls to 10-8 overall with a 3-5 CIAA record. The Lady Lions will host Virginia Union University at home in their next game on Saturday, January 25th at 2:00 p.m.
