Taylor Leads Lady Lions to 54-43 Victory Over Bowie State

Box Score Lincoln University, PA - The Lincoln University women's basketball team won their fourth consecutive game, defeating Bowie State University 54-43, on Saturday, January 18th in Manuel Rivero Hall. Freshman forward De'jah Taylor (Nanuet, NY/Paramus Catholic Regional) led the Lady Lions in points with 11.

Lincoln got off to a slow start in the first half and trailed the Lady Bulldogs 12-2, within the first three minutes of the game. The deficit reached 12 on two different occasions in the middle of the half, with the most recent being at the 6:32 minute mark.

The Lady Lions responded by closing out the period on a 13-3 run, ultimately trimming the Bowie State lead to 26-24 at halftime.

Almost immediately after the second half started, Lincoln took their first lead of the game thanks to a layup, plus the foul, and a made free-throw by senior guard Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) 58-seconds into the period.

Over the next six minutes the game was tied three times and the lead changed four times.

Lincoln took a 32-31 lead with 13:15 left and never looked back.

The Lady Lions stretched their advantage to eight with 11:02 left, 10 with 9:31 left, 12 with 8:38 left and 14 with 7:40 left.

Bowie State was able to cut their deficit down to as little as eight points on three separate occasions, but the Lady Lions were able to remain in control and hold on for an 11-point win.

Lincoln's ability to get to the foul line was very important to their comeback. The Lady Lions shot 31 free-throws, making 19 of them to Bowie State's 10. 24 of their free-throw attempts came in the second half.

The Lady Lions out-rebounded Bowie State 45-34 and outscored their bench 25-6.

De'jah Taylor (Nanuet, NY/Paramus Catholic Regional)'s tied a career-high with 11 points on 3-4 shooting, a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line, four rebounds, two blocks and a steal in just 11 minutes.

Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and two assists.

Junior forward Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) added nine points and eight rebounds.

Junior forward Courtney Lucas (Washington, DC/Friendship Collegiate Academy) chipped in seven points, six rebounds and two assists.

With this victory the Lady Lions improve to an overall record of 10-7 and a home record of 8-2.Their next game will be held on the road at Elizabeth City State University on Wednesday January, 22nd at 5:30 pm.
