Clark’s Double-Double Ignites Lady Lions in a 71-58 Victory over Philadelphia

Sophomore guard Amani Clark had a career-high 19 points and 12 rebounds against Philadelphia.
Box Score Lincoln University, PA - Lincoln's sophomore guard Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) recorded her first career double-double posting 19 points with 12 rebounds as the Lady Lions (9-7) rallied back from a 16-point second half deficit to defeat the Rams of Philadelphia University (8-5), 71-58 on Thursday, January 16th in Manuel Rivero Hall.

Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) led the Lady Lions with nine points and six rebounds in the first half on 4-of-6 made shots from the field. Lincoln struggled offensively in the opening period with 11 turnovers and 30% shooting from the field. The Rams shot 42% from the field and outscored the Lady Lions 20-10 in the paint. Philadelphia also added seven made free-throws while the Lady Lions only converted on three taking a 36-26 lead at the half.

In their final non-conference game of their 2013-14 season, Lincoln exploded for 45 second half points  at home for their first ever victory over Philadelphia University. The Lady Lions began their comeback at the 12:41 mark trailing 48-32. Sophomore guard, Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) knocked down a three-pointer from the top of the key to spark the run and Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) put Lincoln ahead for the first time with a layup at the 5:49 mark (52-51). With just under three minutes remaining in regulation the Lady Lions extended their lead to double-digits and held on for a 71-58 win at home.

Lincoln was 13-for-21 from the free-throw line and shot 40% from the field in the second half. Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) made 6-of-7 free-throws and led the Lady Lions with 12 points while Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) recorded four assists, three assists, and scored ten points in the comeback. Clark and Johnson both grabbed six rebounds each as Lincoln out hustled the Rams with 34 combined rebounds (14 offense, 20 defense).  

Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) scored a career-high 19 points and also grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds against Philadelphia. She led the Lady Lions with five assists and three steals in an all-around performance rallying her team back. Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) finished with 16 points and eight rebounds while Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) also had a double-double scoring 10 points with 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Lions bench production. Lincoln outscored Philadelphia 45-22 in the second half and finished with 25 offensive rebounds and scored 20 second chance points.

Lincoln improves to 9-7 overall and will host Bowie State University in their next game on Saturday, January 18th at 2:00 p.m.
