Lady Lions Put Together Big Second Half to Put Away St. Augustine's, 56-50

Box Score Lincoln University, PA - The Lincoln University women's basketball team shook off a shaky first half to pull out a 56-50 win against St. Augustine's University on Saturday, January 11th in Manuel Rivero Hall. Sophomore Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) led the way for the Lady Lions with an impressive performance of 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Lincoln forced 12 turnovers in a valiant defensive effort in the first half against the Lady Falcons. Senior Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) had four steals while freshman De'jah Taylor (Nanuet, NY/Paramus Catholic Regional) had two of Lincoln's eight steals. St. Augustine's made three shots from long range and shot 42% from the field in the first half. The Lady Lions fell behind by as much as 13 points, until right before the period ended, freshman Jalien Murphy sank a three pointer to beat the buzzer to shorten the deficit to 30-20 at halftime.

St. Augustine's hit a field goal for the first points of the second half, but Lincoln went on to rally down double-digits over the next four minutes. The Lady Lions proceeded to go on a 14-0 run to take control of the game on a 34-32 lead. Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) helped ignite that explosive run, recording seven points, three rebounds and one assist in the four minute stretch.

Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) went on to score eight points in a row over the next two-plus minutes, making all four of her shots as Lincoln took a two-point lead.

The Lady Lions stretched the lead out to seven within the next minute. The scoring then became stagnant for a while as the game was locked at 55-48 for nearly five minutes. The scoreless drought was ended by a pair of free-throws by St. Augustine's with 1:16 left to cut Lincoln's lead back down to five.

Junior Courtney Lucas (Washington, DC/Friendship Collegiate Academy) responded with a free-throw on the other end which was just enough for Lincoln to make it out victorious over St. Augustine's, 56-50.

The Lady Lions superior second half production was key to their first CIAA conference win of the season. In that final period, Lincoln shot 50 percent from the field, got to the free throw line 10 times, forced 16 turnovers, scored 12 fast-break points and blocked four shots.
 
Three Lady Lions netted double-figures against St. Augustine's. Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) led with 13 points and a career-high nine rebounds. After going scoreless in the first half, Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) finished the game with 12 points. She also added three assists, three rebounds and five steals.

Courtney Lucas (Washington, DC/Friendship Collegiate Academy) also contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists while Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) provided a spark off of the bench with nine points, nine rebounds, and four steals.

The Lady Lions improved to 7-7 on the season and 1-4 in CIAA conference play. Lincoln will play their next game on Monday, January 13th against Shaw University at home at 5:30 p.m.
