Hot Shooting Leads Lions to Victory over Wilmington, 72-61

Box Score Lincoln University – Four Lions netted double-figures as The Lincoln University downed Wilmington, 72-61 at home. The Lions outscored Wilmington 43-33 in the second half behind 53% from the three-point line and an overall 43% shooting from the field. Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) paced the Lions with 10 second half points. Smith was 3-5 from three-point range to lead the attack.
 
Lincoln broke out to their largest lead 69-52 with 2:18 remaining in the game. Courtney Lucas (Washington, DC/Friendship Collegiate Academy) was 3-5 from the free-throw line and De'jah Taylor (Nanuet, NY/Paramus Catholic Regional) was 2-6 in the second half. Defensively, Lincoln forced Wilmington into 30 turnovers with 18 in the second half alone.
 
Lincoln made a season-high 10 three-pointers and played aggressive defense with 16 steals. Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) scored 11 points, dished out five assists, and had four steals against the Wildcats. Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) finished with 10 points and three steals and Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) had nine points with three steals.
 
Courtney Lucas (Washington, DC/Friendship Collegiate Academy) led the Lions bench scoring with 13 points and five rebounds. De'jah Taylor (Nanuet, NY/Paramus Catholic Regional) recorded a season-high 10 points and seven rebounds. Taylor grabbed five offensive rebounds and drained her first three-pointer of the season. Lisa Saunders (Hampton, VA/Hampton HS) added eight points and Jailen Murphy (Nashville, TN/Brentwood Academy) scored five points for the LU bench.
 
The Lincoln University women's basketball team improves to 3-1 after their victory over the Wildcats of Wilmington University. The Lions will travel to Princess Anne, MD on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. o battle the Hawks of University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The teams last played on January 25, 2012 and the Lions were defeated 45-59.
