Lady Lions tripped up by Lady Rams

Tahlar McIntosh had 16 points in Lincoln's CIAA loss to Winston-Salem State
Box Score LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University women's basketball team couldn't recover from a slow shooting first half as the Lady Lions dropped a 59-41 decision to Winston-Salem State in a CIAA contest on Saturday afternoon at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
 
“We lacked energy today,” Lincoln head coach Jessica Kern said. “On the court and off the bench we lacked energy. We tried to get that defensive spark out by forcing turnovers, but just couldn't finish our chances.”
 
Tahlar McIntosh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Alvernia HS) continued her hot-shooting ways as she poured in 16 points and had three steals. Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) added six points and three steals as Lincoln (5-7 overall, 1-1 CIAA) was 9-of-48 shooting for 19 percent.
 
With the score tied at 13-all with 9:42 remaining, Winston-Salem State closed out the first half on a 17-5 run to take a 30-18 advantage into the break.
 
The Lady Rams (6-6, 1-1) extended the advantage to 44-25 with 10:23 remaining, but Lincoln cut the margin to 44-31 with 9:07 left on a 3-pointer by Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS)
 
However, Winston-Salem State was too much and out-scored the Lady Lions down the stretch 15-10 to get the win.
 
Keyrra Gillespie paced the Lady Rams with 11 points, six assists and four rebounds. Dionna Scott had eight points as Winston-Salem State shot 40 percent (21-of-53) from the floor.
