Lucas paces Lincoln with 12 points in loss at Virginia Union

Box Score RICHMOND, Va.Courtney Lucas (Washington, DC/Friendship Collegiate Academy) scored in double figures for the second consecutive game, but it wasn't enough to propel the Lincoln University women's basketball team as the Lady Lions dropped a 61-50 decision to Virginia Union in a CIAA Northern Division contest on Saturday night at Barco-Stevens Hall.
 
Lucas had 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting to lead Lincoln (7-12 overall, 3-6 CIAA, 1-2 CIAA North). Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) had nine points and six boards, while Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) added eight points and six rebounds as the Lady Lions were 19-of-54 from the floor for 35 percent.
 
Virginia Union opened the contest on a 22-11 run, capped by a pair of free throws Shahadah Barrett with 9:26 left. The Lady Panthers extended the advantage to 35-16 with 3:30 remaining after two free throws by Ashle Freeman.
 
Lincoln used a 9-0 run to close the gap to 35-27 at the half.
 
Virginia Union began the second half on a 15-6 run, capped by a Lydia Evans jumper with 12:29 left to give the Lady Panthers a 50-33 advantage.
 
Lincoln couldn't recover during the final 12 minutes in the road loss.
 
Freeman poured in 34 points on 12-of-22 shooting and 10-of-13 from the free-throw line. Parress Davis added seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds as Virginia Union shot 38 percent (22-of-58).
