Lady Lions edge Lady Shock for first victory

O'Brien records second consecutive hat trick

Box Score SILVER SPRING, Md.  — The Lincoln University women's soccer team earned its first victory of the season as the Lady Lions held off Washington Adventist, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at Martin Luther King Jr., Recreational Park.
 
The Lady Shock (0-1) broke the scoreless tie in the 32nd minute, but Tara O'Brien (Twickenham London, UK/St. Mark's Catholic School), who is averaging three goals per game, scored the equalizer in the 45th minute off an assist by Emily Woodruff (San Diego, CA/Madison HS), tying the game at 1.
 
O'Brien's second goal gave Lincoln the lead in the 54th minute. However, Washington Adventist tied the game at 2 in the 62nd minute.
 
Ayana Stewart (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen HS) gave the Lady Lions a 3-2 advantage off the assist of O'Brien, and O'Brien completed her second consecutive hat trick on an unassisted goal in the 77th minute.
 
The Lady Shock added a goal in the 90th minute, but it wasn't enough.
 
Sima Sinforosa recorded two saves in goal for the Lincoln and Taylor Noel had 11 saves for Washington Adventist.
 
The Lady Lions out-shot the Lady Shock, 22-10, and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Lincoln (1-1) prepares its home opener at 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6 as the Lady Lions takes on Valley Forge Christian College.
