Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) led four Lincoln University women's basketball players in double figures with a career-high 22 points, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Lions dropped an 85-76 decision to Virginia Union on Saturday night in a CIAA Northern Division contest at Barco-Stevens Hall.
Johnson had 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting and also added five rebounds and a pair of steals.
Brittney Waters (Capitol Heights, Md./Charles H. Flowers) finished with 16 points.
Denyse Moore (Hampton, Va./Woodside HS) and
Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) each had 15 points, while
Mfon Ekanem (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers HS) pulled down 11 rebounds as the Lincoln (7-20 overall, 3-12 CIAA, 3-6 CIAA Northern) were 27-of-74 shooting for 37 percent.
The Lady Panthers led by as many as 17 points in the first half and took a 42-32 advantage into the half.
Lincoln cut the deficit to 44-37 after a Waters 3-pointer with 19:14 remaining and continued to chip away at the margin. The Lady Lions trailed 76-74 after a
Tahlar McIntosh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Alvernia HS) 3-pointer with 3:35 left, but Lincoln couldn't any closer.
Vicki Collier paced Virginia Union (10-13, 7-7, 5-3) with a double-double, 26 points and 12 rebounds. Ashle Freeman chipped in with 24 points and Parress Davis and Dashia Chandler each had 10 points as the Lady Panthers shot 51 percent (32-of-63).
Lincoln concludes the regular season with a 5:30 p.m., CIAA Northern Division contest on Monday, Feb. 20 at Virginia State University.
