Box Score BOWIE, Md. – The Lincoln University women's basketball team fell behind early and couldn't rally as the Lady Lions dropped a CIAA Northern Division contest to Bowie State, 76-47, on Saturday afternoon at A.C. Jordan Arena.
Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) scored 13 of her team-high 17 points in the first half to lead Lincoln (7-19 overall, 3-11 CIAA, 3-5 CIAA Northern). She also added five rebounds.
Denyse Moore (Hampton, Va./Woodside HS) finished with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting as the Lady Lions were 16-of-48 (33 percent) from the field.
Bowie State, which shot 58 percent from the floor and 20-of-22 from the free-throw line in the first half, opened the game on an 18-4 run, capped by a pair of free throws by Juliette Turner with 12:55 remaining in the opening half. The hot-shooting Lady Bulldogs took a 52-23 lead into the break and the Lady Lions couldn't recover in the second half.
Brooke Miles paced Bowie State (7-14, 7-7, 6-2) with 22 points, including going 10-for-10 at the foul line. Turner scored 19 points with 13 of them coming at the charity stripe. Kimberly Jones added 16 points as the Lady Bulldogs were 19-of-45 from the floor for 42 percent.
Lincoln takes a week off and will return to action 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18 in Richmond, Va., against Virginia Union University in a CIAA Northern Division showdown. The Lady Lions dropped the first meeting this season, 45-41, on Jan. 30.
