Box Score BALTIMORE – Three Lincoln University women's basketball players reached double figures in scoring, but it wasn't enough to propel the Lady Lions past NCAA Division I Coppin State on Saturday afternoon in an 80-61 loss at the Physical Education Complex.
Denyse Moore (Hampton, Va./Woodside HS) paced Lincoln with 17 points, five rebounds and four steals, while
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) added 13 points and three steals.
Tahlar McIntosh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Alvernia HS) chipped in with 10 points and six boards as the Lady Lions were 18-of-61 shooting for 30 percent.
The Eagles led 15-7 after an Ashle Craig bucket with 12:08 remaining in the opening half, but rallied with an 8-0 run, capped by a
Lisa Saunders (Hampton, VA/Hampton HS) 3-pointer with 10:14 left to tie the game at 15.
Coppin State (3-2) answered with a 7-0 run as Leola Spotwood's jumper gave the Eagles a 22-15 lead with 7:15 remaining, but again Lincoln responded and cut the deficit to 22-21 after a
Tahlar McIntosh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Alvernia HS) free throw with 5:51 left.
The Lady Lions (0-4) kept the game close in the final minutes of the first half and a Shawntae Payne jumper right before halftime gave the Eagles a 29-26 advantage.
Coppin State opened the second half on an 11-2 run to grab a 40-28 lead with 17:21 left on a bucket by Bria Harris and the Eagles extended the margin to 54-35 with 12:32 remaining after a layup by Harris.
Lincoln closed the gap to 74-50 after a free throw by Moore, but that was as close as the Lady Lions would get.
Payne led Coppin State with 20 points and five assists. Janelle Lane and Spotwood had 16 and 12 points, respectively. Harris chipped in with 10 points and four boards as the Eagles were 31-of-72 (43 percent) from the floor.
