Lady Lions drop hard-fought CIAA contest to Lady Panthers

Lincoln celebrates a point as the Lady Lions dropped a hard-fought match to Virginia Union
Box Score LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University volleyball team dropped a hard-fought CIAA Northern Division match on Friday night to Virginia Union, 3-1, at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
 
In this key battle for possible postseason play, Virginia Union (4-20 overall, 4-9 CIAA) took the opening set, 25-18, but the Lady Lions (2-15, 1-13) battled back to tie the contest at 1 with a 25-20 second-set victory. However, the Lady Panthers took the match with 25-20 and 25-19 wins.
 
Cynthia Johnson (Randallstown, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) paced Lincoln offensively with 14 kills, while hitting .429. Briana McKellery (Odenton, MD/Arundel HS) finished with seven kills. Erica McClain (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett HS) added 18 assists, while Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) and Erika Bell (Owings Mills, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute HS) had nine and eight digs, respectively.
 
The Lady Lions step out of CIAA play at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23 for the Breast Cancer Awareness match against rival Cheyney University at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
