O'Brien sets record, but Lady Lions suffer heartbreaking loss

Tara O'Brin recorded her 15th goal of the season in the 2-1 heartbreaking loss
Box Score LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. –The Lincoln University women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss on Wednesday as Kelsey Sh-Wright scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute to lift Washington Adventist to the victory at Lincoln University Stadium.

Sh-Wright's goal overshadowed the Lady Lions dominant play throughout the contest. Haley Hendricks (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) hit the cross bar and Urzula Koczkodaj's shot rolled on the goal line, but never crossed the line in the first half.

Lincoln (4-7) out-shot the Lady Shock, 24-11, and had a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

After a scoreless first half, both teams picked up the intensity in the second half.

Erin Sh-Wright's corner kick found the head of Shiemkia Williams to break the 0-0 tie in the 72nd minute to give the Lady Shock (5-9) a 1-0 advantage. But Lincoln refused to give up and answered just two minutes later.

Haley Hendricks (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS)' pass on the right flank found a wide open Tara O'Brien (Twickenham London, UK/St. Mark's Catholic School). O'Brien took one dribble, looked up and fired a shot from about 30 yards away that stunned Washington Adventist goalkeeper Taylor Noel to the near post for the equalizer in the 74th minute.

The goal was O'Brien's 15th of the season to become the Lincoln's single-season leader in goals in a season, breaking Stephanie Anderson (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area HS)'s mark set in 2009.

Sinforosa Sima (Scarsdale, N.Y./Mount Vernon HS) finished with five saves for Lincoln, while Noel had 10.

The Lady Lions conclude their two-game home stand 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 22 at Oxford High School against Chowan University.
