LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. –
Alaysia Washington (Washington, DC/Friendship Collegiate Academy) came off the bench to score 17 points, but it wasn't enough as the Lincoln University women's basketball team couldn't rally late in falling to Livingstone, 74-67, on Saturday night in a CIAA contest at Manuel Rivero Hall.
Washington was 7-of-16 from the floor to lead all Lincoln scorers.
Denyse Moore (Hampton, Va./Woodside HS) added 15 points and
Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) scored 12 as the Lady Lions (4-9 overall, 0-2 CIAA) were 24-of-63 shooting for 38 percent.
Lincoln took its largest lead of the first half at 16-12 after Washington drained a 3-pointer with 8:13 remaining. The Blue Bears (5-8, 1-1) rallied and tied the game at 32 after a jumper by Jasmine Murray with 47 seconds left, but the Lady Lions took a 35-34 advantage into the break as
Krystal Fluellen (New York, N.Y./Richard Green HS) sank a jumper with five seconds remaining.
The Lady Lions grabbed a 57-51 lead with 8:16 left on a Washington layup, but the Blue Bears closed out the game on a 24-10 run to get the win.
Murray paced Livingstone with 19 points on 7-of-11 from the floor. Kelcyn Manurs had 18 points, while Montiya Harrison chipped in with 13 as the Blue Bears were 27-of-66 from the field for 41 percent.
The Lady Lions return to action 5:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 9 at Manuel Rivero Hall against Johnson C. Smith.
