Box Score PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Lincoln University women's basketball team couldn't hold on to a slim lead in the second half in dropping a hard-fought contest to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, 59-45, on Wednesday night at the WP Hytche Center.
 
Denyse Moore (Hampton, Va./Woodside HS) paced Lincoln, which was playing its fifth road game in 10 days, with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting and also finished with four steals, four rebounds and three assists. Krystal Fluellen (New York, N.Y./Richard Green HS) had eight points and three boards as the Lady Lions were 18-of-52 from the floor for 35 percent.
 
The Lady Lions (5-15) fell behind 12-3 to start the game, but Lincoln used an 8-0 run, capped by a Fluellen layup with 7:35 remaining in the first half to cut the deficit to 12-11. Maryland Eastern Shore pushed the advantage to 16-13, but again the Lady Lions answered and used a11-6 run to take a 24-22 lead into the final seconds.
 
The Lady Hawks (6-11) got a bucket by Amber Cook with six seconds remaining to send the two teams into the break tied at 24.
 
UMES opened the second half on a 18-9 run to take a 42-33 advantage with 10:10 remaining after a free throw by Cook. Lincoln trimmed the deficit to 44-40 after a Brittany Waters jumper with 7:16 left, but that was as close as the Lady Lions would get.
 
Chelsea Sanders led the Lady Hawks with 23 points and nine rebounds. Cook chipped in with 14 points and six boards as UMES shot 28 percent (20-of-55) from the field.
 
The Lady Lions open a five-game CIAA Northern Division homestand on Saturday, Jan. 28 against Bowie State at Manuel Rivero Hall.
