SALEM, W.Va. — The shorthanded Lincoln University women's soccer team took to the road on Thursday and were edged by Salem International University, 3-2.
The Lady Lions (0-4-1) opened the scoring as
Tara O'Brien (Twickenham London, UK/St. Mark's Catholic School) assisted on a
Jada Benn (Abingdon, MD/Harford Technical HS) goal in the seventh minute to give Lincoln a 1-0 lead. The Tigers (1-4) answered in the 37
th minute as Michele Mendiola scored off an assist by Nikki Grambo.
The score remained tied at 1 until the 59th minute as Mendiola scored her second goal of the game off an assist by Nicole Bylski. Lincoln quickly answered just six minutes later as O'Brien scored on an unassisted goal, tying the game at 2.
However, Mendiola completed the hat trick with her third goal in the 70th minute to give Salem International a 3-2 victory.
Sima Sinforosa had six saves for Lincoln, while Whitney Brydge finished with five for Salem International.
The Tigers out-shot the Lady Lions, 25-9, and had a slim, 2-1, advantage in corner kicks.
Lincoln continues action on the road with a 1 p.m., match on Friday, Sept. 23 in Vienna, W.Va., against Ohio Valley University.
