Women shut down to open divisional play

The women's tennis team played well against some of the conference's best.
PETERSBURG, Va. (April 4, 2011) — The Lincoln University women's tennis team dropped its three matches at the latest Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-up.

The Lady Lions began divisional play by dropping contests to Virginia State, 9-0, Chowan, 9-0, Elizabeth City State, 8-0, Bowie State, 9-0, and Virginia Union, 9-0 over the course of three days.

This was the third and final CIAA-Round up hosted by Virginia State but the first that pitted teams from the league's Norther Division against each other.

Although it was a tough weekend, there were some positives. Umiquewa Rogers dropped her match To Chowan's Jennifer Mitchell, 3-6, 4-6 in a competitive nailbiter, a good sign from the freshman as she continues to develop.

Against Virginia Union, Mellyssa Diggs (Chester, Pa./Chester HS) and Shari Davis (Clinton, Md./Gwynn Park HS) fell 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles match. Against Elizabeth City State, the No. 1 doubles tandem of Stephanie Henry (Pleasantville, N.J./Pleasantville) and Leslie Reid-Bey (Sickelerville, N.J./Winslow Township HS) dropped an 4-8 contest while Rogers and Davis lost 3-8.
