KUTZTOWN, Pa. –
Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) and
Denyse Moore (Hampton, Va./Woodside HS) finished in double figures as the Lincoln University women's basketball team couldn't shake off the holiday rust as the Lady Lions dropped an 82-58 decision to Kutztown University on Friday night at Keystone Arena.
DuBose poured in 12 of her team-high 19 points in the first half to pace Lincoln. Moore added 14 points, while
Mfon Ekanem (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers HS) led the way defensively by pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds. The Lady Lions were 15-of-68 shooting for 22 percent.
The Golden Bears (4-8) raced out to an 8-0 lead early in the opening half, but the Lady Lions (4-6) used an 8-3 run to close the gap to 11-8 after a DuBose 3-pointer with 14:25 remaining. Kutztown, on the back of Ashley Wood, took a 43-27 advantage into the half.
Wood led all scorers by scoring 19 of her 23 points in the first half to finish three points shy of her career high. Andrea Sisson and Advia Campbell recorded 15 and 12 points, respectively, as Kutztown was 27-of-59 (46 percent) from the floor.
The Lady Lions open the 2012 portion of their season 5:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 2 at Manuel Rivero Hall against Ohio Valley University. In the first matchup, the Fighting Scots defeated the Lady Lions, 70-58, on Nov. 12 in the WVIAC-CIAA Conference Challenge in Vienna, W.Va.
