Denyse Moore (Hampton, Va./Woodside HS) scored a season-high 20 points as the Lincoln University women's basketball team is off to its best start since the 2006-2007 season as the Lady Lions held off Georgian Court, 57-54, on Monday night at the GCU Wellness Center.
Lincoln (2-1), playing its third game in four days, shot 40 percent (18-of-45) from the field and benefited by going 18-of-29 from the free-throw line.
Moore led all scored with 20 points on going 5-of-10 shooting and was 8-of-13 from the charity stripe. She also added five assists and four steals in 35 minutes. Lerynica Miller and
Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) added eight points each, while
Mfon Ekanem (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers HS) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Lady Lions led 30-23 at the half and had to hold off a late charge by the Lions to get the win.
Ebony Sellers led Georgian Court with 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting, while also pulling down seven rebounds. Shauneia McPhearson chipped in with 17 points and eight boards as Georgian Court (0-1) was 19-of-58 from the field for 33 percent.
The Lady Lions roar into their home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 16 against Washington Adventist at Manuel Rivero Hall. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
