Baynton scores two goals as SIU edges LU

OXFORD, Pa.  — Jessica Baynton scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the Salem International women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Lincoln on Saturday afternoon during Senior Day at Oxford High School.
 
The Tigers opened the scoring in the 16th minute as Baynton scored from just outside the penalty area to give Salem International a 1-0 lead. Just a minute later, SIU made it 2-0 as Vanessa Jones fired a shot that banged off the post and into the goal to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.
 
In the 36th minute, Baynton added her scored goal off a direct kick from about 25 yards out to give Salem International a 3-0 lead.
 
However, Tara O'Brien (Twickenham London, UK/St. Mark's Catholic School) answered with a goal in the 42nd minute to cut the deficit to 3-1.
 
Salem International out-shot Lincoln 10-5 in the first half, but the Lady Lions dominated the second half, 9-2, but couldn't get the ball into the back of the net.
 
Sima Sinforosa finished with five saves for Lincoln (1-11-1), while Whitney Brydge had three for the Tigers.
 
The Lady Lions conclude the season 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 24 in Dover, Del., against Wesley College.
